which reminds of very visually compelling and slightly annoying trend i've noticed in art-graphic-design-what-have-you:

take scenes of nature....add some minimal geometric shapes...perhaps some sans serif text

and voila -- it's cold and clever and fresh and very visually effective.

West Coast

Storm Tharp is a Portland artist...I think. Everything is in ink and fabric dye and stunning in person.

I know Mark Gonzalez is huge and skateboard art is huge and I wish I could find a better example. But his acrylics are refreshing...caught between being 'painterly' and all that hyperflat-acrylic-graphic-trendy-blah-blah-blah.

Two artists that stood out in NYC last time I was there:

Florian Sussmayr. Giant monochromatic photo-sourced oil and the subject matter is all 1980's and 90's (euro?) punk scene.

And Pawel Althamer. Mud and grass and shitmix sculptures. The little girl was amazingly creepy. She made it on my banner.

Now time to make a zine.
